What Is Variegated Floss?
Variegated—or self-shading—floss is dyed so its color changes at intervals along the thread. Instead of one flat shade, a single strand travels through several tones: light to dark, or one hue into the next.

Seasons comes in three series that differ by how quickly the color changes. That rhythm of change is what makes each one suited to a different kind of stitching.
Seasons 5000
Changes color at even intervals about every 8 cm (3.1 in). With an easy-to-use color-change pitch, it is enjoyable for embroidery as well as creative thread play.
Seasons 8000
Colors change about every 30 cm (11.8 in). Ideal for large motifs and firm, full stitching. A rich variety of pinks and greens—colors often used to depict landscapes and scenery.
Seasons 9000
A series with short, random color-change pitches. Enjoy dynamic gradation even in small motifs. Vivid, memorable colors suited to accent and one-point stitching.
